Digital and information accessibility

Information must be clear and accessible regardless of device and means of interaction.

A website can look modern and yet remain inaccessible to some users. Accessibility is the ability to read, hear, see or obtain information in an alternative way, operate functions from the keyboard, fill in forms correctly and not lose context while navigating.

Our technology benchmark

For veterano.institute, the development benchmark is set as WCAG 2.2, level AA. These are verifiable requirements for the perceivability, operability, understandability and compatibility of web content with assistive technologies. A statement of actual conformity is possible only after an audit of the specific implementation, not on the basis of design or an installed plugin.

What the website must provide

  • A logical heading structure and clear navigation on every page.
  • Full operation from the keyboard and a visible focus indicator.
  • Sufficient contrast, text scaling and responsiveness without loss of content.
  • Text alternatives for informative images and accessible names for controls.
  • Subtitles and transcripts for relevant multimedia materials.
  • Forms with labels, hints, error messages and the ability to correct them.
  • Accessible PDF and DOCX files or full HTML alternatives.
  • Correct marking of languages, a logical reading order and correct right-to-left display of Hebrew.
  • Minimisation of motion, predictable interface behaviour and support for assistive technologies.

Nine languages — nine quality information pathways

Language versions are needed, among other things, for international partners, representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora and users who find it difficult to perceive Ukrainian. Machine translation alone guarantees neither terminological nor cultural accessibility; expert editing, a correct link structure and proper marking of the page language are important.

Accessible public communications

During events, we recommend providing for the possibility of remote participation, accessible presentations, sufficient time for questions, clear registration forms and alternative communication channels. Specific support measures are determined on request and according to the capabilities of the event.
